 Volunteer!

One of Episcopal Community Services’ oldest feeding programs continues to thrive and your parish can become a part of it. Meals on Wheels provides sustenance to shut-ins every weekday.

  • Your parish, or perhaps an organization within your parish, can “adopt a day” (or more if you like!) each month. Meals on Wheels drivers pick up hot lunches at the Kansas City Community Kitchen and deliver them to about a dozen of our clients in Midtown.
  • Individuals can volunteer on their own or in pairs, if they like. You can drive one or more days a month, or even serve as a “stand by” driver to fill in at the last minute when the scheduled driver can’t make it.

Kansas City Community Kitchen is always looking for volunteers who have a passion for feeding the hungry.  Those who volunteer here at the Kansas City Community Kitchen find the experience to be both rewarding and spiritually envigorating. There are several different opportunities available for small groups or individuals.

Cook Teams
We are in need of several small groups (4-8 people) who are willing to dedicate one short evening a month for about 2 hours to help us do the basic food preparation tasks like dicing potatoes, opening up canned vegetables or fruits, deboning chicken or turkey, etc.

Servers
We are always in need of  small groups (5-8 people) who are willing to dedicate one or more noontimes (12 Noon to 2:00 p.m.) a month to serving our guests meals, cafeteria style.

Food Preparation Assistants
We can use individuals who would like to help us prepare and cook a day’s meal and, if desired, help us distribute the food to the serving line. Normally, food preparation assistants serve from 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. until we serve up the meal at 12 Noon. They are free to remain during the meal and help out if they so desire.
