Our Volunteers are Valuable!

At the Independent Sector's rate of $19.51 per hour, 23,275 ECS volunteer hours were worth an in-kind donation last year of more than $454,000!  That’s a lot of cash… but we know our volunteers are priceless!

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. –Hebrews 13:2

Which volunteer opportunity is right for you?

Hungry Shut-Ins are Waiting for Your Special Deliveries

If someone you know was homebound and hungry, you’d bring them a meal, wouldn’t you? An elderly relative, a lonely neighbor, a disabled retiree—they’d be most fortunate to know you and to receive your generosity.

But what about those who don’t have someone like you? They are “the poor, the friendless and the needy” recalled in the Book of Common Prayer. They need you more than ever.

Episcopal Community Services needs you in our Meals on Wheels ministry. Volunteer drivers deliver meals to shut-ins in Midtown and Kansas City’s East side. Drivers pick up nutritious hot meals at the Kansas City Community Kitchen (located at 8th and Paseo [map]), and are provided with directions and a route, which takes about an hour to complete.

You can deliver just once or twice a month—or more, if you like. For most of our clients, this is the only substantial meal of the day—and you are the only friendly face they see. Maybe your Small Group or Book Club would like to take on this ministry!

E-mail Meals on Wheels coordinator Richard Gooch or call (816) 682-4226.

There are several different opportunities available for small groups or individuals. Contact Erika Rucker, Kitchen Manager and Volunteer Coordinator.
